Company History

1890 Ichisuke Fujioka and Shoichi Miyoshi establish Hakunetsu-sha Co., Ltd. to manufacture light bulbs.
1896 Hakunetsu-sha changes its company name to Tokyo Hakunetsu Dentokyu Seizo Co., Ltd.
1899 Tokyo Hakunetsu Dentokyu Seizo Co., Ltd. changes its company name to Tokyo Electric Company.
1937 Tokyo Yushutsu Denkyu Co., Ltd. established, a predecessor of Toki Denki Co., Ltd..
1939 Tokyo Electric Company and Shibaura Engineering Works Co., Ltd. merge to become Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Toshiba”).
1943 Tokyo Yushutsu Denkyu Co., Ltd. changes its company name to Toki Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd.
1974 Toshiba Denzai Co., Ltd. established, acquiring the electrical construction materials business from Toshiba and the lighting materials and lighting equipment business from Toshiba Shoji Corporation.
1987 Toki Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd. changes its company name to Toki Denki Co., Ltd.
February 1989 The lighting business of Toshiba is split to establish Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation.
April 1989 Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation, Toshiba Denzai Co., Ltd., and Toki Denki Co., Ltd. merge to become a new Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation (Toshiba Denzai Co., Ltd. is a surviving company from the merger and changes its company name to Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation).
January 1999 Acquires the lighting-equipment manufacturing business from Tec Corporation (currently Toshiba Tec Corporation).
July 2000 Acquires from RDS Co., Ltd. the business of selling lighting equipment and stage lighting equipment.
October 2000 Sells the industrial equipment business to Harison Denki Corporation, which changes its company name to Harison Toshiba Lighting Corporation.
October 2000 Sells the manufacturing business of HID lamps and halogen lamps to Osram-Melco Toshiba Lighting Corporation.
May 2001 Opens the Numazu Facility.
September 2003 Splits the residential lighting business to newly established Toshiba Home Lighting Corporation.
April 2004 Reorganizes sales subsidiaries for electrical construction materials into Toshiba Denzai Marketing Co., Ltd.
October 2007 Merged Toshiba Home Lighting Corporation.
March 2010 Discontinues the manufacturing of filament bulbs for lighting.
October 2011 Acquires the home IT system business from Toshiba Lifestyle Products & Services Corporation.
October 2012 Merged Harison Toshiba Lighting Corporation.
April 2013 Merged LDF Corporation and Toshiba Lighting System Corporation.
