Leading national museums of art, science, industry, technology, and natural history can be found at the Smithsonian complex. Nestled among the many museum buildings in the heart of Washington D.C. lie the venerable The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, now illuminated by Toshiba LED lighting.

What sparked the museum director's interest in a lighting project of this kind was Toshiba's lighting renovation at the Louvre. In the Smithsonian project, Toshiba planners once again rose to the challenge of supplying stable and efficient LED lighting that met exacting, museum-caliber specifications. The spectrum of LED products available was a distinct advantage in this project.

Combining the ideal beam angle (from 8°, 25°, and 35° options) and type of lens needed, the planners replaced existing entrance lighting, wall-wash lighting from the hall to the exhibition rooms, and lighting on information graphics and titles. Planners chose either 2700 K or 3000 K LEDs, depending on the ambiance in each area.

Elsewhere in the U.S., Toshiba LED lighting is used at sites including the Tyler Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
